Botched escape attempt proves painful

Current Affairs

A botched attempt to escape from police road checkpoint proved painful for a Nelson man when he fell down a 7m bank and broke his leg yesterday.

Sergeant Terry Richards said police chased the man at 12.30pm after he failed to stop at a checkpoint.

The offender eventually leapt out of his car and ran into a dead-end street but then fell down the bank and broke a leg.

The man, taken to hospital for treatment, will face a charge of failing to stop and possibly a drink driving count.
