Ponsonby is one of the older inner city suburbs. Today it is a trendy and expensive area of lovely restored villa houses. You can find unusual fashions, health shops and a great cafe and restaurant scene. Ponsonby has a reputation for its colourful characters that inhabit the area. Spending time there you will no doubt have a bit of rubber neck syndrome as you admire some of the fashion styles adopted in the area. There are a few little parks in the area which are a pleasure to walk through and to relax in. Also there are some top class restaurants and a some lovely coffee houses to discover. Ponsonby is home to most if not all of Auckland's coffee roasters and is a place where the best Baristas perfect their art. There are a few small but delightful galleries and some wonderful art and crafts shops which have some beautiful designs and products. Ponsonby is on the opposite side of the city to Parnell, and is a good walk from the city center. You can start one end of Ponsonby Road and just go to the end, there will defiantly be something there for you. The Link Bus service will take you to Ponsonby Road and travels around every 10 minutes in both directions. It can be said that Ponsonby Road is the heart and left ventricle of Auckland's cafe and restaurant scene. |
