Newmarket is described as a shopping lovers dream. Recently it has undergone a serious make over and although it has been a slow and steady process, Newmarket can now confidently call itself the fashion capital of Auckland. The main street, Broadway, is the chief location of a number of unique and exciting retail stores. Make sure you hit Two Double Seven, a shopping mall complex housing some top international brands, and has become a veritable fashion spectacular of its own right. Newmarket is a place where you can shop yourself silly, indulge in a number of great cafes and restaurants, and then shop some more. Newmarket is also a favourite to catch a good quality film festival class movie at the Rialto cinema complex and then digest it over a cup of coffee or a glass of red wine. If you are up for lighter entertainment the Village 8 complex will cater to all your Hollywood and mainstream whims. Newmarket also has some great bars and is always a good alternative to the central city and Viaduct scene. Newmarket backs onto the Domain park and if you want to get a way from it all, its just a wee stroll before you can relax under some big old trees or find a grassy spot in the sun. If you're up for exploring a bit of the areas history the Newmarket Heritage walk takes you on a circular route that passes by most of the heritage buildings in the locality. Newmarket is also very centrally located with Parnell just down the road, the museum and the domain at its back and only about a 6 or 7 minute drive to the central city. The easiest way to get here is to jump on the link bus but you could also try the train. This area is a definite must if you want to let loose and try a bit of retail therapy or just do a bit of window shopping. |
